(Florence, Ky.) - A new road slated to open this fall in Boone County now has a name reflecting its proximity to the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Work continues on the South Airfield Road Project in Florence, a 2.7 mile connection between Kentucky 18 and Turfway Road. This week, Boone County’s Fiscal Court decided to rename the road Aero Parkway.
Engineers project the daily traffic counts on Aero Parkway to be about 49,000 vehicles by 2030.
Citizens are invited to get up-close familiar with Aero Parkway before it opens to traffic in October, a month ahead of schedule. A "Touch a Highway" event will open the road for walking, running, bicycling, roller blading, and more. It takes place Saturday, September 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Parking for this open house style event will be available in the Turfway Park parking lot located near the intersection of the South Airfield Road Project and Turfway Road behind the Danbarry Dollar Cinemas and Northern Kentucky Association of Realtors.
A shorter connection road from Aero Parkway to Houston Road will be named Ted Bushelman Boulevard. Bushelman was a Florence city councilman and community relations director for 42 years at CVG. He died March 6, 2011.
