It will be on display, day and night, In Newtown Park throughout July.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - This Memorial is modeled after the original Honor Roll billboard of names that stood in Newtown Park from 1942-1946 to recognize those from Dearborn County who served during the war.
As the number of living World War II veterans continues to decline, preserving their stories and honoring their service has become increasingly important. Historians believe that by the mid-2030s, the last American veterans of the war will likely have passed away, making World War II part of history rather than a living memory. This underscores the urgency of preserving their stories and experiences for historical and educational purposes.
The 2026 Dearborn County memorial lists a remarkable 2,999 names, including 111 wounded in action and 84 killed in action. It exists because of the collaboration of dedicated volunteers, the City of Lawrenceburg, the Dearborn County Historical Society, Signarama, and generous community sponsors.
The unveiling ceremony will take place Saturday, July 4, at 4 p.m. in Newtown Park. Following brief remarks, the new memorial will be unveiled and will remain on display, day and night, throughout the month of July.
From U.S. 50, visitors can turn onto Front Street and follow it a short distance to the entrance of Newtown Park.
Everyone is encouraged to visit the memorial as part of the USA’s 250th birthday celebrations. Take a few moments to read the names of the men and women on the memorial - maybe recognize some family members. Then, perhaps, offer a salute and whisper a heartfelt Thank You and God Bless.
