(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Future Generations Scholarship was established within the Ohio County Community Foundation by the City of Rising Sun to financially aid Rising Sun High School graduates.
The scholarship program supports graduates in their pursuit of high education at a four-year college or university.
This year, a total of $64,000 was awarded to 32 Rising Sun High School graduates. The following students will each receive $2,000 to be paid over two semesters:
Timmi Jones, Jena Thayer, Ashley Bowne, Landon Cole, Josie Bell, Gavin Gilb, Kate Jenkins, Jonathan Jimenez, Meranda Lozier, Grantland Phelps, Isabel Siekman, Kieran Groover, Sidney Halloran, Kaitlyn Wilson, Cloe Ballard, Nate Elliott, Allison Givan, Megan Hayes, Keira Holbrook, Abbie Kremer, Nora Powell, Emma Russell, Rachel Schwing, Alayna Walcott, Olivia Cate, Natalie Fisk, Makenzie Harlow, Kaitlyn Henry, Hillary Lambert, Kassidy Lewis, Karlee Simons and Paige Werner.
Students are required to complete community service hours for an organization(s) approved by the Ohio County Community Foundation before the application deadline of their Senior year of high school, as one of the components of the scholarship. The number of hours that are required depends upon the applicant’s graduation year from RSHS.
Since the inception of the scholarship in 2006, students have volunteered over 29,000 hours and have received over 1.2 million dollars in scholarships. Some of the organizations that have benefited from these volunteer hours are the Ohio County Public Library, Red Wolf Sanctuary, Bear Branch Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Ohio County Extension Office. There are currently over 60 organizations on the approved community service list.
The mission of the Ohio County Community Foundation is to build, manage and distribute a lasting source of charitable funds for Ohio County.
