Three Area Swimmers Qualify for State, Three Divers to Regionals

The Regional Diving competition happens Tuesday with the State Finals taking place next week.

(Southeast Indiana) - Three swimmers from southeast Indiana have qualified for the IHSAA State Finals, while three others will compete at the Diving Regional. 

The IHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Sectional Finals took place on Saturday. 

At Sectional 17 at Columbus North, Milan's Dylan Thomas, Oldenburg Academy's Nash King, and East Central's Henry Strotman qualified for the State Finals in three separate events. 

Thomas became the first Milan swimmer in program history to qualify for the State Final in three consecutive seasons. He is seeded 15th in the 100 Backstroke at the State Finals this weekend after placing 2nd at sectionals with a time of 51.73. 

OA freshman Nash King placed 2nd in 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:42.42. That puts him 13th going into the State Championships next weekend. He is the fastest seeded Freshman in the State in this event.

Henry Strotman will compete in the 50 Freestyle after placing 4th at the sectional (21.45). 

East Central's Nick Hutchinson, and the South Dearborn duo of Cameron Cheek and Carson Cheek will compete at Diving Regionals on Tuesday at Jasper. The southeastern Indiana trio placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively at the sectional.  

The State Finals will be held February 23-24 at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
