(Belgrade, Serbia) – Mason Parris is returning home with a medal from his first Worlds appearance.

The Lawrenceburg native represented Team USA at the 2023 World Wrestling Championships on September 16-17 in Belgrade, Serbia.

Competing in the 125 kg division, Parris made quick work of his first three opponents, pinning Kazakhstan’s Yusup Batirmurzaev in 1:21. He followed up that performance with a 3-0 win over Italy’s Abraham Conyedo Ruano, and an 8-4 win over China’s Zhiwei Deng.

Parris would fall in the semifinal (8-4) to Geno Petriashvili (Georgia).

In the Bronze Medal match, Parris rebounded for a 12-2 technical fall win over Abdulla Kurbanov (Individual Neutral Athlete).

By finishing third, Parris qualified the USA to compete in the 125 kg division at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
