INDIANAPOLIS – Curtis Eckstein has a long list of accomplishments.
The Oldenburg native earned another amazing feat on Sunday when he finished second overall at the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon.
Eckstein crossed the finish line with a time of 1:04.14. The only runner that was faster than Eckstein was Panuel Mkungo, who set a Mini Marathon record with a time of 1:01.44.
The 500 Festival Mini-Marathon is a 13.1-mile race that journeys through the heart of downtown Indianapolis and a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Eckstein averaged 4:54 per mile on Sunday.
He is no stranger to big time performances. In 2016, he won the IHSAA Boys Cross Country individual state championship for Oldenburg Academy. He then won the 3200-meter state championship during the track & field season the following spring.
