CROSS COUNTRY

(Story submitted by Jonathan Meyer, East Central)

The Brown County Invite, known as The Eagle Classic, hosts some of the biggest and best teams in the state of Indiana.  The data is unreal: over 1,000 boys race on this course and about 900 girls- all in one day!  WOW- it is inspiring to behold!

The East Central Trojans ran well today! The girls made a statement! They raced today among giants. The girls were invited to the Elite Race and placed 9th. The leading teams were Carmel, Columbus North, and Zionsville (all ranked in the top 10 in the state).  Their 9th place finish was strong.  Several of the top girls ran a season best time on a slow day.  When I say a slow day, I mean this: Looking at last year’s times, most runners, even the elite runners in the field, ran slower than they did at the same meet last year.  It was a hot, dry day with a lot of dust in the air!  There may be a burn-ban in the state, but these Trojans are on fire!  Callie Bentley placed 6th overall with a time of 18:32.

On the boy side, there was one Personal Record, and that went to Ayden Ferhman.  However, that is not to say that the other Trojan men did not run well.  When you are racing against hundreds, it is always exciting, thrilling and a good day.  Bradyn Hatton ran in the Elite race as a solo runner and placed 88th.  The Boys team in the Varsity race placed 19th.
