East Central's Simon Williams earned the pitching win over Cooper (Ky.) with plenty of run support Thursday.

BASEBALL

East Central 8, Cooper (Ky.) 1 – The Trojans scored three runs in the second and three more in the sixth. Jack Hutchins had a triple and three walks to go with 3 RBI. Reid Cleary and Mitch Behrle had 2 RBI. EC’s Simon Williams was credited with the win by pitching 5.0 innings with 4 Ks, 3 walks, 2 hits and 1 unearned run allowed.

Batesville 8, Rising Sun 5 – Batesville opens their season with a win. The Bulldog’s Sam Voegele was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Lane Oesterling smacked a solo home run. Four Batesville pitchers – Trey Peters, Caleb Raab, Riley Zink, and Shane Meer – combined to get 11 strikeouts.

SOFTBALL

Franklin County 13, Talawanda 3 – A big 8-run 3rd inning powered Franklin County to the victory. Abby Orschell, Laura Hildebrand, and Camryn Brewer each had 3 hits. Brewer had 3 RBI. Michaela Ferman pitch 6.0 innings with 8 strikeouts.
