(New Alsace, Ind.) - One of Dearborn County's last living World War II Veterans is celebrating a milestone birthday today.
George Lingg is turning 100 years old.
Lingg, a lifelong resident of New Alsace, served in the Navy in World War II. He served with the Pacific Fleet and was aboard the USS Salamaua, CVE-76, and served as a radioman.
For his service, Lingg was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal and the Ruptured Duck Honorable Discharge.
Lingg is one of four living WW II Veterans in Dearborn County, along with George Klopp Sr., Clarence Cook and JC Lewis.
