(Ripley County, Ind.) - The Ripley County Community Foundation invites you to a special wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday, December 7th, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, at 3:00P.M. at the Ripley County Courthouse in the Versailles Town Square.

This ceremony will kick off the Wreaths Across Ripley County effort to place a wreath on every grave of our local heroes. It is your chance to come together as a community and pay tribute to our veterans and their service. We hope to see you there as we remember and honor those who have served.

Wreath laying will take place on December 14th, joining more than 3,700 other locations across the country for National Wreaths Across America Day. Coordinated and led by local volunteers, sponsorship groups have raised funds throughout the year to sponsor the placement of over 4,700 veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of our fallen service members laid to rest there. This annual event seeks to further the yearling mission to Remember, Honor, Teach, ensuring that the memory of those who served our country endures. For more information on volunteer opportunities, contact Owen Menchhofer at 812-756-0160.

Wreaths Across Ripley County is expanding this year to incorporate the TEACH portion of Wreaths Across America. On December 4, 5, and 6th, junior high students across Ripley County will learn about the 10 attributes American veterans emulate. This program encourages participation from young people who learn valuable lessons about the sacrifices made by veterans and the importance of preserving our freedoms.

Civics education is crucial for fostering informed citizens who understand the rights and responsibilities associated with living in a democracy. By participating in events like Wreaths Across America, young people gain a deeper appreciation for our veterans and the values they fought to protect.
