(Vevay, Ind.) – Vevay Town Hall and the Vevay Police Department have moved to a new location.

Switzerland County Commissioners began the process of moving Town Hall and the PD out of the historic Carnegie Library on Ferry Street last year.

At the beginning of April, Town Hall and the PD officially moved into their new digs at the former Jack Sullivan Senior Citizens Center on Walnut Street, reports The Switzerland Democrat.

The building is handicap-accessible and will allow for easier customer service.

There was some initial trouble getting phone lines to transfer to the new building, but Clerk-Treasurer Brandi Scudder-Bear announced Monday that phone and internet lines are working and that payments can be taken over the phone. By transferring phone lines from the old building, the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office and the Police Department were able to keep the same phone numbers community members are used to calling.

Construction is ongoing in the building’s meeting room. The room is expected to become a source of income when things get back to normal by renting out the space for small meetings and occasions.

On the PD side of the building, there is more space for officers to do their work. Police Chief James Richards says the facility is more up to date and spacious, allowing officers to do their jobs more effectively and efficiently.

The department comes with a new evidence room, evidence lab, specialized secure lockers and an interview room.
