The Thursday morning fire at the JTS Plaza is centered in the Hope's Light Thrift Store, according to witnesses. Domino's Pizza and Pirates Den Bar are two adjacent businesses.
Dispatchers say that an employee in the thrift store suffered smoke inhalation but had not been taken to the hospital.
U.S. 50 remains closed in both directions at the fire scene because firefighters had to connect a fire house to a hydrant across the highway. Traffic is being diverted to State Roads 48 and 148.
Dispatchers did not have an estimated time on when U.S. 50 may reopen.
