Three South Ripley Senior-Junior High School students died in a two-vehicle accident in Ripley County Thursday morning.
Two trucks collided on Fairgrounds Road at the intersection with County Road 850, just west of the Town of Osgood, a little after 10:00 a.m., according to Indiana State Police. Each of the two pickup trucks were carrying three students.
Three students died. The other three were injured and taken to area hospitals. Their names have not been released.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office is leading the accident investigation.
A press conference with Indiana State Police, Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, and school officials is scheduled at the Indiana State Police Post in Versailles at 4:30 p.m. Eagle 99.3 will carry the press conference live.
Vehicle crashes have claimed a number of individuals involved with South Ripley Community Schools in recent years. Emily Mathes, 15, died in an ATV crash in May 2012.
Candace Wehr, a former South Ripley teacher, died in a private airplane crash with her husband Greg in January 2012.
In 2011, South Ripley Elementary School students Kacy Brown, 7, and her sister Grace Brown, 6, died when a semi rear-ended their parents’ vehicle.
Tanner Tucker, 17, died when his car collided with a tree in 2010.

(Versailles, Ind.) – Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies and Indiana State Police are on the scene of a vehicle accident in which there are multiple fatalities.
The accident occurred Thursday morning on Fairgrounds Road just west of Osgood. Indiana State Police Sgt. Noel Houze said there were three fatalities involved.
The names of the deceased victims have not been released. There were other victims reported to be injured.
Sources tell Eagle 99.3 that the crash involved students from South Ripley Senior-Junior High School in Versailles.
The crash is being investigated by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Houze said. More information could be released this afternoon.
