Two Dead After I-71 Vehicle Chase Ends With Crash, Shooting

Kentucky State Police began pursuing a vehicle in Gallatin County on Monday.

(Gallatin County, Ind.) - Two people were shot dead in a police chase that began in Gallatin County Monday afternoon.

A citizen called 911 about a person appearing to be in distress in a minivan.  Kentucky State Police located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver began to speed away.

The police pursuit continued down Interstate 71 for roughly 45 miles. After crossing into Oldham County, the fleeing vehicle wrecked on an interstate ramp at Crestwood.

Officers opened fire on a man and woman who were in the car. The man died at the scene. The woman was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.

Those two have not been publicly identified.

No officers were hurt in the chase or the shooting.

The Kentucky State Police are investigating the deadly officer-involved shooting and attempting to sort out what happened.
