More than five inches of rain came down on August 16.

(Hebron, Ky.) – Thursday was so wet in the tri-state that the rainfall set one record and nearly broke another lofty one.
Meteorologists measured 5.02 inches of rain at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. It marks a new record for the wettest day ever measured in August here, far surpassing the previous record of 3.6 inches.
The deluge was also not far off from setting an all-time record for the rainiest day ever recorded. The single-day record at CVG is 5.21 inches, among the weather service’s records dating back to 1871.
The 5.02" of rain @CVGairport yesterday was impressive (2nd wettest day all-time), and may leave you wondering what the highest calendar day total in the @NWSILN service area is over the years. Of currently active stations, the Piqua, OH Coop Observer measured 7.86" on 8/8/1995.

It will be another couple days before the tri-state will start to dry out. Showers and thunderstorms remain in the area Friday and Saturday. The NWS says localized flooding will remain a possibility as the ground is already saturated.
Skies should begin to clear Saturday evening, with the clouds giving way to sun on Sunday.
[5:09 AM] Although some areas certainly don't need any more rain, more scattered showers/storms are moving east from Indiana at this hour. These storms are expected to weaken, but will create another wet AM commute for east-central IN and west-central OH and the Tri-State area. pic.twitter.com/EeRojOEHNL
