Three Firefighters Added To Batesville Fire Department

Congratulations to all three individuals!

(Batesville, Ind.) - Three gentlemen have been officially added to the Batesville Fire & Rescue team.

Today Fire Chief Todd Schutte announced the hiring of three full-time firefighters. These new hires include Michael Orlando, Chris Decker, and Lucas Garvey.

Firefighter Orlando, 21, Manchester, has gained experience by working as a part-time EMT with several agencies such as, Batesville, Cheviot, Delhi, and Lawrenceburg Speedway.

“I’ve always been passionate about firefighting ever since I was a little kid and look forward to joining the department full-time,” says Orlando.

Decker, 29, Batesville, began his firefighting career as a cadet with Sunman Rural Fire Department. The past several years, he has been serving as a firefighter in the Air Force.

Garvey, 21, Sunman, has been working as a member of Sunman Rural Fire Department and Rescue 20 since he was 18 years old.

“I have a passion for helping others and to do it locally as a firefighter and make a living off it is a dream come true,” Garvey stated.

These men have gone through the extensive hiring process and have completed the necessary Firefighter II and EMT-B certifications required to join the department.
