Three Arrested on Drug and Gun Charges

The investigation started in mid-June.

(Madison, Ind.) - In mid-June 2026, Madison Police Department (MPD) began an investigation into a residence located in the 300 block of Fairmount Drive after receiving complaints of suspicious activity.

As a culmination of investigation, a search warrant was sought for the aforementioned residence, which was reviewed and granted by the Honorable D.J. Mote of the Jefferson Circuit Court.

Due to information received during the investigation and potential dangers inside of the residence, the Indiana State Police (ISP) Swat Team was utilized to execute the search warrant.

When the ISP Swat Team arrived, they began calling out any individuals who were inside of the residence. Jerry C. Diaz, 52, of Madison, exited the residence and was taken into custody. When no other individuals exited the residence, ISP Swat made entry inside, where officers located Marcelino Rodriguez, 49, Fort Wayne, barricaded inside of a bedroom. Rodriguez refused commands to exit the bedroom and was apprehended by an ISP Swat K-9. After the residence was cleared, Zaid I. Diaz, 18, Madison, arrived home and was detained by officers.

During a search of the residence, officers located multiple firearms, narcotics, and narcotic related paraphernalia. It was discovered that one of the firearms located during the search had previously been stolen out of Jennings County, Indiana. Detective Sweet was assisted in his investigation by MPD Captain Wayne Phillips, MPD Sgt. Jordan Perry, MPD Sr. Patrolman Kayla Moore, MPD Patrolman Jeremiah Douglas, MPD Patrolman Colton Fox and MPD Det/Major Ricky Harris.
