(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Southeast Indiana State Representative Jud McMillin (R-Brookville) is resigning his House District 68 seat. McMillin’s immediate resignation was announced Tuesday afternoon by Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis). "Our caucus is thankful for Representative McMillin’s service to our state, and we fully support his decision to step down in order to focus on his family," said Bosma. In a brief statement, McMillin said, “The time is right for me to pass the torch and spend more time with my family.” McMillin had been serving in his third term as the House representative in House District 68. The ambitious young Republican first took office in 2011 after defeating deeply entrenched Democrat representative Bob Bischoff. Since then, he catapulted through the Indiana Statehouse ranks. McMillin had been promoted to the House majority floor leader – the second highest position in the House – for the 2015 legislative session this past winter and spring. McMillin also practices law as a defense attorney at a law office with his father in Brookville. Here is McMillin’s full statement:
“The opportunity to serve the 68th district has bene one of the greatest honors of my life. However, after five years of dedicated service I have decided the time is right for me to pass the torch and spend more time with my family. I hope that the work I have done in Indianapolis and in Southeastern Indiana has made the state and the communities I represent a better place. Now I want to focus all of my attention on making my family’s world a better place.”
McMillin's replacement for the House District 68 seat will be chosen by a GOP caucus. The term runs through the end of 2016.
