The resolution would rename the eastbound bridges on U.S. Highway 50 over Tanners Creek in Lawrenceburg

INDIANAPOLIS - State Rep. Garrett Bascom (R-Lawrenceburg) brought forward a resolution to rename two bridges in Lawrenceburg to memorialize two local Vietnam soldiers.
Through House Concurrent Resolution 5, the bridges would be renamed after Lary D. Fogle and Thomas G. Denning, Lawrenceburg natives who both graduated from Lawrenceburg Consolidated High School in 1965.
Pvt. Fogle, an Army airborne paratrooper, was the first Dearborn County resident to be killed in the Vietnam War. He was 18 years old at the time of his death. Pvt. Fogle was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his service and his name is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Panel 4E, Line 30.
Lance Cpl. Denning served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the 3rd Marines at Quang Tri. He was killed in action while leading an assault. Cpl. Denning received two Purple 2 Hearts for his bravery and his name is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 16E, Line 1.
"These two hometown heroes showed their dedication to our country and its ideals, giving everything they had in their service," Bascom said. "This name change would serve as a reminder to the residents of Lawrenceburg of the sacrifices men like Fogle and Denning have made for our country's freedom and security."
The resolution would rename the eastbound bridges on U.S. Highway 50 over Tanners Creek in Lawrenceburg the "Lary D. Fogle Memorial Bridge," and the westbound flyover bridge on U.S. Highway 50 in Lawrenceburg the "Thomas G. Denning Memorial Bridge."
The resolution moved out of the House Roads and Transportation Committee and now goes to the House floor for consideration. To learn more, visit iga.in.gov.
