(Aurora, Ind.) – Big things are happening at St. Mary’s School in Aurora.

Principal Bob Brookbank told Eagle Country 99.3 on Tuesday that St. Mary’s has received two generous grants, in addition to the news that the school will host Archbishop Charles Thompson in January.

Eighth grade students, under the direction of English teacher Jim Waldon, wrote letters to the Archbishop of Indianapolis asking him to visit the school.

Archbishop Thompson accepted the invitation and will lead a 10:00 a.m. school mass at St. Mary’s on January 8, 2020. Students from St. Lawrence School in Lawrenceburg will also take part in mass.

Additionally, St. Mary’s School has been awarded a $17,581 grant from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation. The grant funds were used to complete installation of a new technology infrastructure and 40 Chromebooks.

A Safe School grant of $13,998.23 allowed St. Mary’s School to upgrade two entry and exit doors with audio and visual recognition equipment. Nine cameras were also installed to monitor high traffic areas on campus.
