(Harrison, Oh.) – Local businesses in southwest Ohio are positioning themselves to join the sports betting community.

House Bill 29 took effect on March 23, which will allow sports gaming through licensed operators of online sportsbooks and brick-and-mortar establishments.

The bill also allows licensed lottery sales agents who hold a valid D1, D2, or D5 liquor permit to apply for a Type C Sports Gaming Host license through the Ohio Casino Control Commission.

As of August 5, several establishments in southwest Ohio have been placed on the Type C Sports Gaming Host Pre-Approved List. The list is updated weekly and can be found here.

The OCCC will issue licenses based upon the Ohio Lottery’s recommendation.

The universal start date for sports gaming in Ohio is January 1, 2023.
