Voters will be asked to pass a new tax levy after rejecting a similar levy in the spring.

(Harrison, Oh.) – Southwest Local School District (SLSD) is returning to the ballot this November.
After a $4 million tax levy failed in the spring, the school district is asking voters to approve a 0.25 percent tax on earned income for individuals residing within the school district. The proposed tax would begin at the start of 2027.
Voters shot down a similar tax levy during the primary election in May. Fifty-eight percent of voters were against the tax levy, while 42 percent were in favor.
Under the new state budget, Southwest Local Schools expects to see a funding decrease of about $3 million for the upcoming fiscal year.
Should the new tax levy pass, it would be a continuing tax that is expected to generate over $2 million annually.
The levy is intended prevent cuts to current educational programs, staff positions and essential services.
