Services Set For Off-Road Crash Victim; Another Rider Still Recovering

(Dillsboro, Ind.) - Indiana Conservation Officers say one of the victims in a deadly weekend off-roading accident is still recovering in the hospital. Collier Holtegel, 21, died when a Polaris RZR off-road vehicle struck a ditch in a soybean field near Moores Hill early last Saturday morning. Indiana Conservation Officer Joshua Thomas tells Eagle Country 99.3 that witnesses told investigators that Holtegel was the last person seen operating the vehicle as it left a residence before the crash. It remains unclear if Holtegel was actually the person at the wheel when the accident occurred. The vehicle did belong to Holtegel, Thomas said. According to Thomas, alcohol was likely involved in the wreck, but it will take up to five weeks for the Dearborn County Coroner to receive results of toxicology tests. Two other riders were injured in the accident. Jacob Moody, 21, of Dillsboro, remained in the hospital Tuesday in stable condition after undergoing surgery, according to Thomas. Moody's Facebook page has been filled with well-wishes from friends. Mason Cutter, 19, also of Dillsboro was treated and released from the hospital after being taken there from the crash scene before first responders arrived. Visitation for Collier Holtegel, a 2013 South Dearborn High School graduate, is scheduled for Thursday evening, July 7, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Dillsboro United Methodist Church. Services will take place at 11:00 Friday morning at the church. According to his obituary, being outdoors was what made Holtegel happy. That included hunting, fishing, going to horse races, and riding his RZR and quad. Holtegel is survived by his father Brad Holtegel, mother Kimberly Keith, sister Caden, brother Cody, a girlfriend, grandmother, and many other relatives. Collier's family plans to create a scholarship in his memory.
