Rising Sun Regional Foundation Awards $275K In New Grants

A total of 16 grants were awarded during the fourth quarter of 2019.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Rising Sun Regional Foundation (RSRF) awarded a total of $275,420 in 16 new grants in the fourth quarter of 2019. These grants included:

  • $20,000 to Rising Sun/Ohio County Community School Corporation toward the replacement of playground flooring and equipment;
  • $25,000 to Rising Sun Municipal Utilities toward a new pole line;
  • $40,000 to American Legion Post #59 (Rising Sun) toward renovations to its restaurant, including a handicap-accessible restroom;
  • $15,000 to Rising Sun Methodist Church toward repairs to its building;
  • $10,000 to Ohio County 911 toward a mapping of the county;
  • $9,253 to Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor’s Special Crimes Unit for the purchase of analysis software
  • $25,000 to the Ohio County Highway Department toward the purchase of a hydraulic excavator;
  • $18,500 to South Dearborn Community School Corporation for the purchase of equipment and supplies to start up its Agriculture program;
  • $12,630 to Milan Community School Corporation for the purchase of stop arm cameras for school buses;
  • $3,837 to Osgood Public Library toward the repair of walls and installation of bookshelves;
  • $20,000 to Batesville Community Education Foundation toward platform fees for the start-up of a virtual Bulldog Center network;
  • $2,000 to Ripley County Humane Society for the purchase of acoustic sound barriers for its kennels;
  • $4,200 to Midwest Equine Trail Foundation toward the purchase of a trenching attachment;
  • $30,000 to New Horizons Rehabilitation toward the renovation of a building in Batesville for training and employment for clients;
  • $20,000 to Jac-Cen-Del Community School Corporation toward the purchase of school safety items and equipment; and
  • $20,000 to Batesville Memorial Public Library toward a Reading Garden.

Grant applications for the next grants cycle are due Wednesday, January 15, 2020 by 4:00pm. Applications can be downloaded from the RSRF website at www.rsrfonline.org, and emailed to Jascia Redwine at risingsunregionalfoundation@gmail.com. All applications must be emailed.

In 2019, RSRF awarded grants totaling $1,299,002, including $125,000 each to Ohio County Community Foundation and Ripley County Community Foundation toward Lilly Endowment’s GIFT VI Program.

The Rising Sun Regional Foundation was created in 1994 by the City of Rising Sun, and is now funded by the Rising Star Casino Resort, owned by Full House Resorts, Inc., which makes monthly contributions to the foundation based on a percentage of its Adjusted Gross Revenue. To date, the foundation has received more than $44 million in riverboat funds, of which at least 75% has been granted back to the community.
