(Colerain Township, Oh.) - Police have identified a 12-year-old girl killed in an 86-vehicle pileup on Interstate 275 in Colerain Township Monday.
According to authorities, Sammy Reagan, of Kings Mills, had gotten out of the vehicle she was riding in after it had slid into the median at about 11:00 a.m. As she was standing outside the vehicle, subsequent collisions caused a metal wire belonging to the highway’s median cable barricade snapped.
Raegan was struck in the head by the wire. She was taken to Mercy Fairfield Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The young girl was a sixth grader at Columbia Elementary School in Maineville, Ohio.
Hamilton County’s sheriff’s office and the Ohio State Patrol are continuing to investigate that massive pileup which shut down the interstate for several hours. Twenty other people involved in the mash up were injured but are expected to recover, police said.
The interstate fully reopened at about 7:00 p.m. Monday.
