Parking Near Intersections, Crosswalks A Growing Concern In Rising Sun

A city ordinance prohibits parking within 20 feet of intersections.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) – A growing safety concern is being addressed in the City of Rising Sun.

For the safety of people and property, the City of Rising Sun asks everyone to adhere to city ordinance 71.01.

Under the ordinance, parking is prohibited within 20 feet of any intersection or crosswalk. More and more parked vehicles have been observed very close to intersections in recent weeks, according to the City.

The actions increase the likelihood of accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians.

Exceptions to the ordinance include parking within 20 feet of an intersection or crosswalk for up to three minutes for a vehicle loading and unloading passengers or up to two hours for freight-carrying vehicles unloading materials.
