By Travis Thayer Curt Eckstein. File photo. (Bloomington, Ind.) – Oldenburg Academy senior Curt Eckstein capped off his high school career with a State Championship on Friday. Eckstein finished first in the 3200-meter run at the IHSAA Boys Track and Field State Championship at Indiana University. He finished the race with a time of 9:08.54, finishing just ahead of second-place finisher Skylar Stidam (9:09.69), of Christian Academy.
The state title is the second of Eckstein’s illustrious high school career. This past fall, Eckstein was the first to cross the finish line at the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals in Terre Haute. Eckstein ran the 5,000-meter course in just 15:13. The next closest competitor was nearly 30 seconds behind. To top it off, Eckstein was also named the Charles F. Maas Mental Attitude Award winner. Eckstein’s will attend Purdue University in the fall as part of the cross country team. He plans to study engineering. Curt is the son of Dave and Judy Eckstein, of Batesville.
