Ohio County Tourism Announces Upcoming Fall Events

There will be plenty to see and do in Ohio County this fall.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Events, events and more events are coming soon to Rising Sun and Ohio County. 

Ohio County Tourism has unveiled details about several events that are scheduled to take place during September and October. 

From festivals and fishing tournaments to community events, live entertainment and family activities, there will be something for 
residents and visitors of all ages. 

The fall event season will officially kick off this Friday, August 28 with Fun in Rising Sun: Critter Cinema & Family Night.

The event will run from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ohio County Tourism Visitors Center and will feature arts and crafts vendors, a face painter, Boots N’ Mini Moo calves, an appearance by Bluey from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., a make-it, take-it craft and a free showing of Zootopia 2 at 8:00 p.m. The Cub Scouts will provide free popcorn, and Dori’s Rolled Ice Cream will offer 50 percent off selected items, sponsored by JAM Real Estate-Keller Williams Realty. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the movie. 

The Rising Sun Marketplace First Friday Night Market happens Friday, September 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will feature specials, shopping, ice cream and more.

On Saturday and Sunday, September 12-13, the 21st annual Ohio Valley River Cats Fishing Tournament returns to Rising Sun. 
Teams can still register through ohiovalleyrivercats.com. First place pays $10,000, with numerous additional awards going to top finishers. While there is an entry fee for participants, spectators can attend the weigh-in at Rising Sun Riverfront Park free of charge.

“It’s been wonderful seeing this event grow into the largest catfish tournament in the United States,” said Kendal Miller, executive director of Ohio County Tourism, Inc. “Organizer Stephen Hannan and his crew work extremely hard to make this a top-notch event.”

The popular Navy Bean Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, September 18-19 on Main, Poplar and Front streets. The annual festival will include arts and crafts, food trucks, live entertainment, characters and more. The festival’s signature navy beans and cornbread will be available along the riverfront.

Friday’s entertainment lineup at the Navy Bean includes the Rising Sun Church of Christ Worship Team and Lunchbox.
The wedding of Mr. Bean & Lady Bean will take place during the evening. Saturday’s entertainment will include Band a Hoosiers, the Marty Conner Band, Are You Ready for It (A Taylor Experience), and the Whammies. 

The annual Navy Bean Fall Festival Parade will be held Saturday, September 19, at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Rising Sun. Parade applications are still being accepted and are available at Rising Sun City Hall or the Ohio County Tourism Visitors Center. 

September 22 is National Scenic Byway Day. Ditch the interstate, crank up the playlist, and cruise the scenic roadways of Ohio County. Along with America’s 250 birthday it’s also the anniversary of the U.S. numbered highways system. There are no rules, just take the roads less traveled and experience the views and historic scenery. 

The Rising Sun Community Yard Sale will take place Thursday through Saturday, September 24-26. Residents and visitors can search for treasures throughout the community.

Ohio County Tourism will host its Fun in Rising Sun: Motor Meet Up Cruise-In on Friday, September 25, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The free event will welcome cars, trucks, and motorcycles and will feature Cincinnati deejay J.D. Hughes, and arts and crafts vendors. Food will be available for sale from Troublemakers and DonutNV. The event is free for both participants and spectators.

On Saturday, October 24, the Red Wolf Rampage 5K and 10K Trail Run/Walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Red Wolf Sanctuary. Proceeds will support Red Wolf Sanctuary and its efforts to preserve native North American wildlife. Registration is available online at redwolf.org. Tours of the sanctuary will be available following the race.

The fall festivities will continue with Trick or Treat in Rising Sun on Saturday, October 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Ohio County Tourism Visitors Center will host deejay J.D. Hughes, the Headless Horseman, and the Boots N’ Mini Moo’s miniature unicorn ponies for an evening of family-friendly Halloween fun. The Center is located at 217 N. High Street in Rising Sun.
