By Mike Perleberg (Indianapolis, Ind.) - Hoosier deer hunters are being told about a new online licensing system. The Indiana DNR announced Tuesday that deer licenses for the 2016-2017 hunting season are now available for purchase. Information on license types and fees is at wildlife.IN.gov/2380.htm. You can get help identifying which type of license you'll need with the IDNR's online sport license finder at wildlife.IN.gov/6486.htm. A new online system requires hunters to set up an account in order to buy their license. You must be at least 13-years-old to create an account. The popular firearm deer hunting season in Indiana runs Saturday, November 12 through the Sunday, November 27. Muzzleloader season starts December 3 and ends December 18. Archery season began October 1 and runs through January 1. A crossbow license is required to hunt with a crossbow during the archery season. The deer license bundle allows hunters to take three antlerless deer or two antlerless and one antlered deer in the archery, firearm, muzzleloader, and special antlerless seasons combined using legal equipment. Hunters in Dearborn, Franklin, and Fayette counties will have to follow some extra protocols this deer hunting season due to the discovery of bovine tuberculosis in a whitetail deer in Franklin County.
