(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Dearborn County Hospital (DCH) is pleased to welcome Phumeza Msikinya, M.D., to the Rising Sun Medical Center. She will begin seeing patients on Monday, November 4.

Dr. Msikinya is coming to Rising Sun from St. Vincent Medical Group in Anderson, Indiana.  Experienced in family medicine, Dr. Msikinya is looking forward to providing preventive, as well as acute care for her patients.   Her practice philosophy includes a strong focus on preventive care and she supports it by stating, “I prefer to keep patients healthy rather than to put out fires.”

The specific goals she has for the practice are, “to help her patients maintain their health, utilize best practices and keep current with advances in healthcare.

“I am delighted to become part of the Rising Sun Medical Center and am looking forward to working with my new colleagues.  The entire staff of the Center has been very supportive and I hope together, we can continue to make a real difference in the overall health and well-being of the residents of Rising Sun and the surrounding area.  It was wonderful meeting so many kind and welcoming individuals at the Rising Sun health fair this summer. I am really looking forward to seeing them again, both at the Center and in the community.”

Dr. Msikinya notes that many people do not see a physician routinely.   She emphasizes, “You don’t have to be sick to see a doctor; by providing maintenance, a physician can catch things before they become a problem.” She believes that patients will appreciate her as their primary care provider because she will “focus on keeping them healthy.”

One of the main reasons she chose to join the DCH family was because she was seeking a small to medium sized organization with a progressive system. DCH and the Rising Sun Medical Center were an excellent fit.  She believes in a strong integrated healthcare community and states, “I don’t want to just know the name of the physical therapist working with my patient; I want to know who they are and their plan for treatment too.”

Dr. Msikinya completed  her residency at Indiana University Family Medicine in Indianapolis.  She earned her Medical Degree at Ross University School of Medicine in Roseau, Dominica, and received her pre-med training at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Prior to her pursuit of a Medical Degree, she received a Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

In her free time, she likes to play tennis and read.  Dr. Msikinya has been an Indiana resident (on and off) since 1994 and is planning to reside in Aurora with her husband.  She also has two adult sons living in Indianapolis.

In addition to Dr. Msikinya, the Rising Sun Medical Center is comprised of Gary Scudder, M.D., and Vanessa Longacre, R.N., F.N.P.  Appointments are currently being accepted for Dr. Msikinya by calling the Rising Sun Medical Center at (812) 438-2555. Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and until 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays.  The Center is located at 230 Sixth Street in Rising Sun.
