(Batesville, Ind.) - Jacob Butzin has been selected to serve as Choir Director for both Batesville High School and Batesville Middle School.
Butzin, a native of nearby Ross, Ohio, is relocating from Mississippi to join Batesville Schools. In addition to serving as choir director, Butzin will also be teaching at BHS and BMS.
“I’m incredibly excited to join the BCSC family and become part of a community with such a strong tradition of excellence,” Butzin said. “I look forward to building meaningful relationships with students, creating unforgettable musical experiences, and helping every student grow both on and off the stage.”
Butzin brings extensive choral leadership experience to Batesville.
Prior to accepting the position at Batesville, Butzin served for two years as Director of Choral Activities at Jackson Academy in Jackson, Mississippi, directing both the middle school and high school show choirs. He began his teaching career in 2023 as Director of Show Choirs at Brandon Middle School in that same state. While completing his bachelor’s degree at Miami, he spent three years as Assistant Director of Show Choir with the Ross Local School District, working with Ross Middle School’s Next Generation and Ross High School’s Legacy.
Butzin holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he received the Future Music Educator Award. He later earned a master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
“Jacob Butzin rose to the top after two rounds of interviews,” explained BHS Principal Brad Stoneking. “He comes to us with middle school and high school choral experience. Throughout the process, he made it clear that he puts his students first. He is excited to return closer to home and build upon the amazing accomplishments already achieved by our choral music department via the Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) competitions.” Throughout his career, Butzin’s ensembles have earned numerous awards, including Best Vocals, Best Choreography, Best Show Design, and Overall Grand Champions. In addition to directing, Butzin is an active clinician and has worked with show choirs across Ohio and Mississippi, and has served as an adjudicator for choral auditions.
