(Versailles, Ind.) - A motorcyclist is dead after a two-vehicle accident near Versailles.
Indiana State Police responded to the crash on Thursday afternoon on State Road 129.
The initial investigation shows that a 2007 Kenworth pulling a trailer, driven by Wayne Schmidt, 54, of Sunman, was southbound near Benham Road when he slowed to turn left into a private driveway.
A second vehicle, traveling behind Schmidt, slowed to turn right.
At that time, police say Devon Lewis, 18, of Canaan, attempted to pass both turning vehicles on the left side of the road. In the process, Lewis’ motorcycle struck the driver’s side of Schmidt’s vehicle.
Lewis was ejected from his motorcycle and was transported to Margaret Mary Health where he was pronounced dead.
No other injuries were reported.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash although toxicology results are pending.
The investigation is ongoing.
