Matt Dew jumped into action to help a choking victim at the MVFD Christmas dinner.

(Milan, Ind.) - It was December 19, 2023, when a Milan Volunteer firefighter jumped into action.
That evening, the MVFD was enjoying their annual Christmas dinner when a retired member had a piece of food become lodged in his throat.
Matt "Squirrel" Dew immediately recognized what was happening and successfully administered the heimlich maneuver. Dew was recognized on Tuesday evening for his actions.
"Our department and community is very blessed to have folks like "Squirrel" serving," said Chief Alex Hooker.
Dew currently serves as 2nd Lieutenant and is very active in the community.
