(Bluffton, SC.) – One of the members of Milan’s iconic 1954 state championship team has passed away.
Robert “Bob” Wichmann passed earlier this month at his home in Bluffton, South Carolina at the age of 87.
Wichmann was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 1, 1937. He moved to Milan in the early 50’s with his parents and two younger siblings.
He would go on to play a supporting role on the 1954 state championship basketball team as a center.
After graduating from Purdue University, Wichmann served 40 years with Pioneer Seeds, becoming one of the top executives of the company.
In 1992, he received Purdue University’s Distinguished Agricultural Alumni Award.
