(Versailles, Ind.) - On Tuesday, Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott presented Master Trooper Daniel Elmore, Indiana State Police-Versailles District, with a lifesaving award for his actions at a rural Decatur County residence on July 4, 2025.

On that day, M/Trp. Elmore was patrolling on County Road 300 North in Decatur County when he overheard a dispatch of a three-year-old being found unresponsive in a pool. M/Trp. Elmore quickly responded to the address in the 4000 Block of East County Road 280 North.

Upon arriving, he located the unresponsive child on the porch of the residence with a relative performing CPR on her.

Observing that the relative was exhausted, M/Trp. Elmore took over performing CPR on the child. After chest compressions were administered, the child showed signs of responding. He then rolled her onto her side and gave her back blows to clear her airway.

As a result, she soon began to breathe on her own and started to cry. He monitored her until EMS arrived on scene.

The child was flown to an Indianapolis area hospital where she has since made a full recovery.

Lt. Paul Adams, Indiana State Police-Versailles District Commander stated, “The Indiana State Police is honored to recognize Master Trooper for his quick response to a family in need and his actions on that day.  Without the life saving measures he provided, the child may not have survived this event”.
