Margaret Mary Health Recognizes DAISY and BEE Award Winners

The DAISY and BEE awards are presented twice a year.

(Batesville, Ind.) - Two Margaret Mary Health team members were recently recognized for making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their colleagues. Julia Samples, RN, received the DAISY Award for the exceptional care and compassion she provides to patients, while Materials Management Manager Bob Fegley received the BEE Award for the important role he plays in supporting patient care.

The DAISY Award is an international honor established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at the age of 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was inspired by the clinical skills and compassion of his nurses, so they created the award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

Samples was nominated by one of her maternity patients, who wrote: “What began as a labor journey quickly turned into an emergency C-section, and in those moments of fear, uncertainty and overwhelming anxiety, Julia was my steady anchor. From the very beginning, she demonstrated a level of compassion that went far beyond expectations, not only for me, but for my baby girl and husband as well.”

At MMH, every member of the team plays an essential role in patient care. The BEE Award recognizes non-nursing team members who stand out among their peers for creating a positive atmosphere at work and making a difference in the patient experience.

Fegley was nominated by MMH’s surgery team, who wrote: “If it were not for Bob, our recent transition to the new hospital would not have been as successful as it was. He dedicated countless hours and tremendous effort to helping ensure everything went as smoothly as possible. Bob is always willing to help anyone who needs assistance, and if he does not know the answer, he makes every effort to find it.”

The DAISY and BEE awards are presented twice a year, and nominations can be submitted by anyone, including patients, family members, providers and staff.
