(Brookville, Ind.) - The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is reminding everyone that even a few minutes in a parked vehicle can turn deadly for children and pets.
On an 85 degree day, the inside of a car can reach over 100 degrees in just 10 minutes, even with the windows cracked. The current weather forecast is calling for daytime highs in the low to mid-90's the rest of the week.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the tri-state area through Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. as heat index values are expected to exceed 100 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Department reminds all citizens to remember:
- NEVER leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle—not even for a short errand.
- If you see a child or pet alone in a car, call 911 immediately.
- Check the back seat every time you leave the vehicle.
