Local Artists Honored At 2020 Hoosier Women Artists Exhibition

This exhibition happened on Wednesday, March 4.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - On Wednesday, March 4, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Treasurer Kelly Mitchell, and the Indiana Arts Commission held a reception to celebrate the 2020 Hoosier Women Artists exhibition at the Statehouse.

“Being able to promote female artists throughout our state each year brings me such pride and joy,” Crouch said. “We had so many incredible pieces of art submitted, and I cannot wait to have them displayed in my office. There are so many talented Hoosier women and I want them all to continue to share their artistic talents with others."

This annual exhibition was announced at the beginning of the year, and 46 honorees were selected from more than 112 entries.

Entries were judged by a panel of visual Indiana arts professionals and then selected for display by Crouch and Mitchell.

The Hoosier Women Artists program, established in 2008, celebrates the importance of the arts in Indiana’s communities and showcase the work of talented female artists throughout the state.

“As always, the amount of talent and creativity Hoosier women possess and display is impressive,” Mitchell said. “I am honored to celebrate their skill by displaying these beautiful works of art in our office during the coming year."

46 pieces of artwork from the honorees will be displayed in the offices of:

  • Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch
  • Treasurer of State Kelly Mitchell
  • Secretary of State Connie Lawson
  • Auditor of State Tera Klutz
  • Chief Justice Loretta Rush
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick,
  • Governor's Residence in honor of the First Lady

Locally, two artists were selected to be featured at the 2020 Hoosier Women Artists exhibition. 

Rebecca Davies from Dillsboro and Joni Huber from Batesville were 2 of the 46 women honored. 

Davies' acrylic on canvas titled 1953. Four Generations of Voters..every time. is priced at $2,500 and is currently on display in Indianapolis.

Huber's mixed media artwork includes, found paper, newspaper, ribbon, etc. on canvas. Women Bring All Voters Into the World is a value of $1,500.
