(Indianapolis, Ind.) - With just about a week to go before the primary election, Indiana’s Republican candidates for U.S. Senate are set to meet for their fourth and final debate Monday, April 30.

Congressmen Luke Messer and Todd Rokita, as well as former state representative and businessman Mike Braun will debate from the studios of WFYI-TV in Indianapolis starting at 7:00 p.m.

Rokita had initially said he would not attend this debate, saying the debate moderator, Indianapolis radio host Abdul-Hakim Shabazz, was a “not conservative enough” choice to serve as moderator. However, Rokita’s campaign announced earlier this month that the candidate changed his mind.

“Todd Rokita believes Hoosier conservatives deserve to know the truth so he will be participating in the liberal Indiana Debate Commission debate,” Rokita spokesman Nathan Brand said in a news release.

The non-partisan Indiana Debate Commission is organizing Monday’s debate broadcast. IDC president Gerry Lanosga said the commission is pleased that all three Republican candidates will be in attendance.

“The commission continues to be a non-partisan voice for all Indiana voters by making the debate option available to candidates in statewide and contested races,” Lanosga added. “Opening debates up to Hoosier voters is a significant milestone for Indiana campaigns that started in 2007. That mission – Putting Voters First – has not changed.”

Indiana’s primary election happens next Tuesday, May 8th. The winner of the Republican primary election for U.S. Senate advances to challenge incumbent Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly in the November general election.

Donnelly is uncontested on the Democratic primary ballot.
