(undated) – Two southeast Indiana cities are being called the best places to retire in all of the state. A study conducted by financial data and advice website SmartAsset.com ranked Lawrenceburg as the number one Indiana city retirees. Batesville ranked second. The study considered four main factors including income and sales taxes, the number of doctors’ offices, and the opportunity for recreation and social life. The study also considered the percentage of population made up of seniors. Lawrenceburg received a state-best 76.6 index score. The city’s 8.8 doctors’ offices per 1,000 people and 2.6 retirement centers per 1,000 people were far more than any other city appearing in the top ten. More than 18 percent of the city’s residents are seniors. Batesville ranked high with a 66.8 index score thanks to 4.8 doctors offices per 1,000 people and one retirement home per 1,000. About 14.4 percent of residents are senior citizens. Nationally, Stuart, Florida ranked as the top city for retirees. Nine of the top ten cities were in Florida.
