(Franklin County, Ind.) - The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a serious injury traffic crash on U.S. Highway 52 near State Road 229 last Friday.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2005 Nissan SUV operated by Justin M. Hokey, age 34, of Laurel, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 52 when, for reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle left the roadway after encountering icy conditions. The vehicle traveled off the south side of the roadway, rotated, and struck a utility pole before coming to rest on its passenger side.
Hokey was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner. Preliminary findings indicate Hokey was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation. Assisting agencies included Metamora Volunteer Fire Department and Letts EMS.
