(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The next time you want to play checkers or chess, you might check out one of downtown Lawrenceburg’s parks.

The City of Lawrenceburg will unveil two new chess and checkers tables at Newtown Park on Friday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. The new tables and World’s Fair-inspired benches are located next to the fountain in Newtown Park.

Area residents of all ages are encouraged to bring their favorite game pieces and challenge friends and neighbors to a game of chess or checkers. The special unveiling event will also include complimentary hot chocolate and cookies.

The new tables were funded by a $4,800 QuIP Grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, which is designed to fund the type of space enhancement and community transformation that sparks community wide conversation and creativity.
