Joey Chestnut Falls Short At State Fair Ice Cream Eating Contest

The hot dog eating champion couldn't hold his ice cream.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Joey Chestnut couldn’t finish in first place in an eating competition in Indianapolis.

Chestnut came in second-place in the World Ice Cream Eating Contest at the Indiana State Fair on Sunday.

Instead, it was Geoffrey Esper who won this year’s contest by consuming 15.5 pints of ice cream in six minutes. Esper fell just short of the world record that was set at last year’s state fair by Miki Sudo, who chowed down 16.5 pints of ice cream in six minutes.

As for Chestnut, he finished 14.5 pints of ice cream. Despite the second place finish, Chestnut remains the world’s top hot dog eater. His current record is 74 hot dogs with buns in 10 minutes.

The Indiana State Fair continues through August 19.
