Ivy Tech Offers Free Manufacturing Summer Camp For Middle School Students

Local 7th and 8th grade students are invited to join the three-day program this June.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Ivy Tech Community College is hosting a free educational summer camp in June at its Lawrenceburg campus to introduce 7th and 8th grade students to career opportunities in advanced manufacturing. The camp will provide students with workforce readiness soft skills and help them plan and prepare for their futures.

Current 7th and 8th grade students in Dearborn and Ohio counties are invited to attend the Ivy Manufacturing 2018 Summer Camp. The camp will be from noon to 5 p.m. June 26-28 at the Ivy Tech Lakefront Campus. Lunch is provided each day.

Students attending the free three-day camps will have the following experiences:

  • Explore career opportunities in the field of advanced manufacturing;
  • Meet industry professionals who will mentor them on the soft skills needed for careers, such as time management and communication;
  • Learn about the education and skills needed for a variety of jobs;
  • Identify high school classes they can take to help them prepare for careers while also earning college credit.

The camps are coordinated as a partnership between Ivy Tech, local school corporations, health care facilities, and businesses.
