Indiana Michigan Power Plans Power Grid Upgrades in Batesville

An open house to learn more about the project will be held this Wednesday, September 30

(Batesville, Ind.) - An open house will take place this week in Batesville regarding a transmission improvement project. 

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) representatives plan power grid upgrades to improve electric reliability for customers in eastern Indiana. The Batesville Transmission Improvements Project involves the construction of new 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to strengthen the power grid and improve electric service for customers.

The project involves:

• Constructing approximately 9 miles of new 345-kV transmission line between Batesville Station, located off North Delaware Road and East County Road 1300 North, and the Tanner's Creek-Junction Tower 345-kV transmission line.

• The use of double circuit steel monopoles. Average Tower Height: 165 feet. Average Right-of-Way Width: 150 - 200 feet*

Community members are invited to attend the open house Wednesday, September 30 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Hall (Knights of Columbus Events Center), 624 Delaware Road. Attendees will learn more about the project, view detailed maps, talk with team members and share feedback. 

Company representatives are accepting feedback until October 14.

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the regional transmission operator who oversees and monitors the power grid across 15 states, mandated this project as part of its Long Range Transmission Planning. The plan focuses on building a backbone in the Midwest to carry electricity long distances, strengthening the power grid and improving electric service for customers.
