INDIANAPOLIS - Starting today, Indiana’s cigarette tax will increase by $2 per pack.
The evidence-based public health policy aims will save lives, reduce youth tobacco use, and encourage adults to quit smoking.
Increasing the price of tobacco is one of the most effective ways to prevent youth from starting and help current tobacco users quit, according to the Nicotine Action Alliance.
According to the America Lung Association, this new tax increase could prompt as many as 38,000 adults in Indiana to quit smoking. That’s a major a major gain for our communities- reducing the toll of heart disease, cancer, and other tobacco related illnesses.
