Hundreds of Chickens Lost in Ripley County Fire

(Versailles, Ind.) – Hundreds of chickens were lost in a fire on Thursday morning.

Versailles Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 4400 South block of State Road 129 around 10:20 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully involved barn, garage, two vehicles, and chicken coops. Firefighters were able to contain the fire, stopping it from spreading to a nearby residence.

However, approximately 500 chickens were lost in the fire.

Versailles Fire Rescue was assisted at the scene by Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, Osgood Fire and Napoleon Fire.
