UPDATE: Couple, Pets Escape House Fire In Rising Sun

UPDATE: Nobody was injured in an early morning house fire on Turner Road.

Update published at 9:44 a.m.:

A couple and their four pets were able to escape a home which caught fire in Rising Sun Friday morning.

Rising Sun Fire Department Chief Kevin Armstrong says the 911 call was made at around 5:21 a.m. Firefighters got to the scene on the 800 block of Turner Road and found the home’s garage on fire.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire. The flames were mostly contained to the garage, but smoke damage was spread throughout the home.

The residents told firefighters they had been woken up by smoke detectors. They got out of the burning home unharmed. The American Red Cross is now aiding the residents.

Armstrong said the cause is still under investigation, but it appears to be accidental, he said.

Rising Sun Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Aurora Fire Department, Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, Rising Sun Police Department, Ohio County EMS, Rising Sun Municipal Utilities and Sycamore Gas.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Firefighters from Rising Sun and Aurora are on the scene of a structure fire in Rising Sun Friday morning.

The fire was first reported just before 5:30 a.m. at a home on the 800 block of Turner Road.

It is unknown if anybody was home. There’s no word yet on a cause.
