(Batesville, Ind.) - A local hospital cites an expanding list of services for a slight name change.
Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville recently changed its name to Margaret Mary Health.
“We’ve been a great community hospital for more than 80 years, but along the way, we’ve become more than just a hospital,” said Margaret Mary President Tim Putnam. “The name Margaret Mary Health better represents who we are and what we do.”
Executives say with multiple offsite locations, specialty services and new physicians, the word “hospital” no longer describes all that Margaret Mary does. Facilities away from the original hospital will still be identified by the Margaret Mary name, for example the Margaret Mary Rehab Center or the Margaret Mary Physician Center.
The hospital’s board never considered changing the name entirely. The Margaret Mary name honors founders Margaret Hillenbrand and her daughter Mary Mitchell.
“We are proud of our heritage, and our community has come to associate the name ‘Margaret Mary’ with quality, compassionate care. It wouldn’t make sense to change that,” said Putnam.
The transition to the new name won’t be immediate, but gradual as staff use up existing supplies and aim to keep disruption at a minimum. Folks will soon begin noticing changes to the hospital’s signage, website, advertising, and materials.
