2003 World Series of Poker champion Chris Moneymaker is the ambassador of the Hollywood Poker Open, which begins at Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg Thursday. (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A regional poker tournament gets underway at Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg Thursday. The Hollywood Poker Open is attracting players from across the country, including 2003 World Series of Poker champion and rags-to-riches story Chris Moneymaker. The former accountant from Knoxville, Tennessee revolutionized poker when he won the WSOP bracelet after qualifying through a poker website. The poker tournament will continue through November 23. The $1,115 buy-in regional main event is scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at noon. Lawrenceburg is the first stop of the third season of the HPO. There are also tournaments at Hollywood Casino locations in Ohio, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Missouri, and West Virginia through May 24th. The top players will earn a seat at the Hollywood Poker Open championship at M Resort Casino Spa in Las Vegas next June. “We plan to not only give away hundreds of seats to the Championship again, but we will also implement similar seat winner promotions to the Regional tournament series as well. These HPO tournament fields are such a great mix of traveling poker professionals and local promotion winners which makes the tournaments really attractive to all levels of poker players,” said HPO tournament director Bill Bruce. More than 100 promotional winners from the various regionals were sent to the championship last year. Hollywood Casino expects a $2 million prize pool in Las Vegas.
